Since the Directive 95/46/EC (24 October 1995 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data) mainly governments or multi-nationals bothered about the protection of the processing of personal data. With the new European initiatives coming up also much smaller companies need to come in action.

Since 2004 Bavo Van den Heuvel works as a Data Protection Officer and Chief Information Security Officer for many governmental institutions. From this experience he will explain some basic concepts of the current and future legislative frameworks. In order to get the legal obligations into data processing systems some known key IT-elements have to be added or sometimes just finetuned.

The new European Regulation will add items as: data breach notification, a DPO for companies with more than 250 employees, the right to be forgotten, people will have easier access to their own data and be able to transfer personal data from one service provider to another more easily, … How can we prepare now to be ready for this new obligations?
